It is very easy to hit the data limit or memory on your Android tablet these days, as there are numerous apps and games available that can eat away the data and memory of your device pretty soon. However, there are many configurations in the Android OS, which you can enable to decrease the data and memory usage of the device. Follow the simple guidelines shared below to decrease data and memory usage to about one third.

Use Only Wi-Fi to Update Apps

Ensure that you use Wi-Fi only to update apps. To do this, open the Google Play Store, go to Menu > Settings > Auto-Update Apps, and select Wi-Fi Only. Doing this will ensure that the apps will be updated only when your Android tablet is connected to a Wi-Fi network. You may also turn on the Do Not Auto-Update Apps option, but if this is enabled, you will need to update the apps manually.

Download Big Files on Wi-Fi Only

This is a good idea to control data usage. Make sure that larger files are downloaded only when the device is connected to a Wi-Fi network. Social apps may download files automatically to the tablet leading to memory loss and more data usage. To stop this, you should ensure that big files are downloaded only using Wi-Fi.

Control Background Data

Many apps installed in your Android tablet will run in the background and may use data and other resources of the tablet making it slow. To know which of the apps are using this, you need to go to Settings and select Data Usage. Scroll down to see a list of apps and their data usage. You may tap any of the apps to see its data usage. There will two numbers near the displayed pie chart. Background shows data used when the app runs in the background and Foreground refers data usage when you are using the app.

Configure In-App Data Settings

Many apps like Google+ have the option to backup all images and videos in the tablet as they are captured. These apps will cost a lot of data in the background and these apps should be controlled. To do this, you will need to go to App Settings and choose Disable from the list of options.
